PART-TIME FACULTY

Alexander Jacobsen
Lecturer

Classical Bass

Childers Hall, Room SB-4
(202) 806-4965
countbassy@gmail.com

Alexander Jacobsen is a graduate of the Curtis Institute, where he studied with Edgar Meyer and Harold Robinson, the latter of whom was Principal Bass of the National Symphony Orchestra (NSO) during the tenure of Mstislav Rostropovich.

Alex is currently a regular member of the NSO and professor of classical bass at Howard University. He has been a guest clinician at the University of Maryland and the Peabody Conservatory. He was awarded Third Place in the Solo Competition at the 2015 International Society of Bassists Convention, held in Fort Collins, CO.

When he isn't busy teaching at Howard or playing with the NSO, Alex enjoys working on many musical side projects, such as writing music and playing chamber music concerts. As a composer and arranger he has produced works for big band, string orchestra, full orchestra, bass orchestra, and chamber ensembles of dubious instrumentation. He also produces electronic dance music and plays jazz.
